Artist, Nicole P. O’Brien works in water-based mediums, primarily watercolor and ink. She received her first art degree from the College of Design at Iowa State University, and followed that up with a Masters in Art History and an MBA from the University of Iowa. Her work is heavily influenced by the lively calligraphic movement of Asian Art which is reflected in the spontaneity and energy of her own work. She has won multiple awards and has been juried into numerous exhibitions and art fairs. She was a juried exhibitor in the Portraits of the Pandemic Exhibit at the Dubuque Museum of Art in 2021, a juried exhibitor for “The Crow Show” in 2022 at The Studio Door in San Diego, CA, juried exhibitor for the2022 “Here Kitschy, Kitschy,” Animal Portrait Show by ShockBoxx Gallery in Hermosa Beach, CA, a juried exhibitor for the Iowa Artists Traveling Art Exhibit in 2023, and was awarded 2nd place within the regional Iowa Artists show 2023. She lives and works in rural NE Iowa where she is surrounded with inspirational beauty inspired by the four full seasons which produce the full spectrum of nature’s color wheel, as well as an abundance of farm animals and wildlife which often make appearances in her art. She hopes her art sparks a passion in viewers for the beauty of nature and inspires them to not only appreciate but preserve it as well.
