MEDIUM: Watercolor | Ink | Mixed Media | Printmaking
SPECIALTY: ✔ Technique

I am thrilled to be part of the Mastrius program because it lets me approach the sharing of knowledge and skills in a way that is less formulaic and more personal than regular teaching.

My groups will revolve around color, tone, watercolor techniques and composition.

I am fascinated by color and I have done extensive research not only from an artistic point of view but also on the science behind it, including the composition, behavior and interaction of paints and pigments. Botanical and floral painting require color skills in a crucial way, giving endless inspiration to explore every part of the color wheel.

We will explore tonal values and different ways to render light and dark, using different types of shadows and highlights, across a range of subjects and surroundings.

Working primarily wet-on-wet, we will learn watercolor techniques such as Harmonic Shadows, layering washes of transparent colors, mixing colors straight on the paper and glazing.

Composition always plays a role in building a painting, from the emotions that you wish to convey to the placement of focus points. There are many rules to composition, and also many ways to break them in a constructive manner.

As an artist joining my groups you will get a lot of support, advice and tuition. I wrote and taught the botanical illustration course for London Art College and I taught for the Society of Botanical Artists Diploma for several years which gives me years of experience giving feedback in an honest and positive way. I will also help you to develop self-assessments, giving you the tools see your art and your goals more clearly.

Together we will work on your weaknesses and develop your strengths.
