What you will learn in this mentorship

• Push the boundaries and take a break from the traditional — spend time with me exploring the integration of painting and drawing. By layering brushwork with drawn line work, we build depth and form that creates remarkable 3-D illusions on the page. These techniques apply to any subject matter and are accessible at every level. I see myself as a fellow artist first — always open to learning from the people I work with. I’m a total material geek, shaped by decades working in the industry, endlessly curious about how things are made and what they can (and can’t) do. If I can pass on some of that knowledge and help quiet that inner critic, that’s the best part of the job. However it goes, the main goal is simple: let’s have fun creating together.

Mentorship Focus

1. Layering charcoal with colourful water-based washes so each medium supports the other. It’s my favorite combination of media because of the beautiful results that are so magical, it will surely inspire further mixed media explorations!
2. Troubleshooting potential mixed media layering conflicts and building a successful plan of action by understanding your supplies, surfaces, tools and mediums.
3. Breaking down the importance of value, form and space to create amazing 3-D illusions on paper.
4. Finishing and protecting final works.
5. Applying the concept and techniques of this drawing and painting integration to various subjects of interest.

How This Mentorship Works

• Live online small-group mentorship
• Monthly two-hour session with your mentor where you’ll receive feedback, teaching, and personal support from your mentor
• Mentor assigns homework so you can practice the skills you’re learning and get feedback on your results
