What you will learn in this mentorship

• The ancient medium of encaustic painting allows artists to create works of great luminosity – works that sometimes appear as though they have been lit from within.
• During this mentorship we will focus on taking our next steps as encaustic artists with an emphasis on building luminous layers of encaustics on panels, paper, and other substrates.
• We’ll explore the ways in which India inks and oil Pigment Sticks can be safely integrated with layers of translucent and opaque encaustics, including techniques that ensure the archival stability of the resulting artworks.
• Each session will include opportunities for sharing work and receiving feedback that is driven by each artist’s aesthetic and technical questions. Sessions will also feature the opportunity to learn new content with assignments that encourage playful exploration and experimentation between each monthly session.

2. Ways to incorporate India inks with layers of wax.
3. How to combine oils and wax in archivally-sound ways.
4. How to build mixed media encaustic layers to maximize luminosity.
5. How to strategically integrate mixed media and wax.

• Live online small-group mentorship
• Monthly two-hour session with your mentor where you’ll receive feedback, teaching, and personal support from your mentor
• Mentor assigns homework so you can practice the skills you’re learning and get feedback on your results
