Meet Ann Rayment

Acrylic | Oil | Conte | Charcoal | Graphite

The Australian landscape is Ann’s inspiration.

She loves colour and texture and challenges herself to find new ways to include this in her work. Ann loves the looseness and unpredictability of marks and experimenting with collage and colour in layers.

She explores the subject through making direct responses with mediums such as ink, pastel charcoal, and acrylic paint. Her brush strokes are bold and energetic, capturing the rawness of the Australian Landscape. She believes everyone can paint.

“It’s all about having the right mindset. Have fun with the process and don’t have high expectations of the product. I liken my process to dancing with the paintbrush. When you’re in the zone the brush takes the lead.”

Meet Eden Compton

Gouache | Graphite | Oil | Pastel

My goal is to help students take their art to the next level through self-exploration and experimentation. Whether you want to create a body of work, figure out your own “style” or just figure out where to go next in your art journey, I have a foundational approach that can help you get there.

I believe using multiple mediums to explore ideas and techniques helps to free up resistance in some areas and reveal new ideas in others. My approach centers on using our sketchbooks as the springboard to explore all aspects of art making from concept to color to composition. I give my students lots of exercises and assignments to push the boundaries and encourage experimentation and apply what we learn to each artist’s own work. I also look to art history for ideas and techniques that we can apply to modern subject matter.

Our class will involve demos, specific assignments, challenges and historical art studies that will help you find the next step forward in your painting practice. We will start each session with a review and group discussion of the previous assignment and then, depending on what we learn, move on to the next assignment with demos and discussion with particular attention paid to each individual group members needs. I own a fine art gallery and teaching studio in Saratoga Springs NY where I teach private classes and workshops. I show my work at a number of galleries and I have been juried into many national shows including Catherine Lorillard society, Salmagundi National Open Show, International Pastel Society, American Women Artists and American Impressionist Society’s online shows as well as numerous regional shows. I am a juried member of the Degas Pastel Society, OPA, PSA and Associate Member with Distinction of AWA.
