MEDIUM: Oil Paint
SPECIALTY: ✔ Generalist

Mel Williamson’s work is about honesty and elevating the humble and everyday. She loves the tactile and slippery nature of oil paint and often works in an “alla prima” method on smooth surface to reveal her bravura brushwork.

Beginning with very loose shapes, she allows her subjects to emerge gradually, almost as if sculptured. She is most interested in capturing the emotion held within the figure; the truth expressed thru unconscious gesture. Philosophically, her paintings are limited in detail so as to invite the viewer to participate in the seeing.

“When I paint I want to be as a poet, not an accountant.” – Stapleton Kearns

Mel Williamson was born in 1975 and raised on a small island off the west coast of Canada, where she still lives. She is thankful to be deeply affected by art and intends to continue to absorb and share her love of it. Her passion for the medium of oil paint is now extended in teaching others how fun, easy (and minimally toxic) it can be to work with.

Mel is currently represented by three galleries in Canada.
