MEDIUMS: Oil Paint | Acrylic Paint
SPECIALTY: ✔ Generalist

Although I teach art in many media, I am an artist at her best, creating traditional and authentic oil paintings. My subjects range from portraits that will become family heirlooms to wildlife, oceans, landscapes, botanicals, and still-life art. It is important to me that I develop each painting into a subject that speaks both to me and others. It is all about the uniqueness of each subject and capturing a particular moment in time. The lighting and shadow, color combinations, and creation of an emotional or intellectual catalyst are often different for each person viewing the painting. Still, they are a must in creating a narrative that makes the viewer want to explore the art, relate to it, and make it their own.

“I wish to make lasting works of art that reach from my life and heart to others that will make their life and environment rich and joyful as creating art has been for me.”

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artwork by Michaela Hoppe

Born in 1949, Laurie Snow Hein always loved everything art but never thought it would provide a living. Encouraged by her high school art teacher, Laurie applied for and won a scholarship to Columbus College of Art & Design. After her first year, Laurie married, studied independently, painted portraits for Leon Lord Studio, and taught art classes, all while raising a family of six children. Her First Gallery was a co-op of portrait painters in 1970 in Lake Worth; then, she had her first Gallery, the Casey and Jolly Gallery in Palm Beach, for several years. It was getting to know her subjects when Portrait painting has always held a special place in her heart.

At age 40, Laurie became the primary provider for her family of 6 and pursued portrait commissions and illustrations as a career, which led her to become an Art Festival artist. She did art festivals from Miami to Chicago, traveling with 4 of her children during the summer circuits.

In 1990 she signed on with a publishing company, Arts Uniq, which sold lithographs of her paintings worldwide until 2002, when Laurie decided to work exclusively with licensing agent Carol White, creating product design and book illustrations, including “Mommy Don’t Cry” with Random House.

In 2005 Laurie decided to stay in Florida for her art show circuit and follow her passion for concentrating on painting the beauty and uniqueness of Florida from the Oceans, Everglades, Botanicals, and Wildlife. Ocean and wave paintings hold a unique attraction because of the motion, energy, and abstract shapes in a constantly moving form. Wildlife is of particular interest because it offers the opportunity to combine landscape with the marvel and personality of a living species. Botanicals provide the play of light dancing across unique shapes and colors. Laurie has sold her art in galleries in Fort Myers and Naples for over 20 years until 2020 and decided to work with local Galleries and Art Groups in the Palm Beach Area during Covid.

Laurie had loved the outdoors and National Parks since age eight when her grandparents returned with stories and photos of their trip to the National Parks. In 2019 she accomplished her lifelong dream of traveling and painting across the country. For 90 days total, by first driving north to Jasper, Canada, visiting parks along the way, then down the Pacific coast. Her 21-foot Winnebago took her across the west, photographing and painting in State and National Parks. The following year the adventure continued with a 14-day rafting trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon along with her paint box. Her next experience is to become an artist in residency with National Parks., hopefully, the Grand Canyon and Hawaii.
