MEDIUM: Textiles | Watercolor
SPECIALTY: ✔ Artistic Process & Mindset ✔ Creating Bodies of Work ✔ Finding your Artistic Voice

Welcome to our group, where artists of all mediums, especially those with a passion for textile arts, gather to cultivate their creative voices under the guidance of a seasoned professional. As your mentor, I bring over 16 years of professional practice. An expert in hand techniques, I’m considered a ‘master embroiderer’, and through self-teaching and hands-on experience, I’ve developed a profound understanding of narrative construction, emotional expression, color, texture and symbolism. Plus the business skills to make it work in the real world, that I’m eager to impart to our group members.

In our sessions, artists can expect personalized guidance tailored to their individual goals and aspirations. I’ll provide insights to help you navigate the intricacies of the creative process, steering you away from common pitfalls and towards the realization of your artistic vision. Whether you’re seeking to refine your technique, explore new avenues of expression, overcome creative blocks, or practical wisdom from creating a professional brand to applying to your first artist residency, our sessions will serve as a nurturing environment where your growth as an artist is prioritized.

Having mentored finalists (often becoming winners!) in prestigious competitions like the Hand & Lock Embroidery Prize for four years, as well as for TextileArtist.org and in private sessions, I am well equipped to support you. Together, we’ll delve into the nuances of storytelling, harnessing the power of color and symbolism to imbue your work with depth and meaning. Through constructive feedback, practical exercises, and collaborative discussions, our mentorship group will empower you to develop a strong, clear creative voice—one that resonates authentically with your audience and stands as a testament to your artistic prowess.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artwork by Michaela Hoppe

My work delves into the profound realms of human experience, with a focus on the interplay of grief, transformation, and divinity. Through wearable sculpture (my current body of work), I navigate the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional expression, aiming to embody the alchemy of personal emotional journeys in tangible form.

Each piece serves as a conduit for catharsis, a manifestation of the invisible faces of human experience. While my own journey through grief and loss informs my practice deeply, I’m passionate about empowering fellow artists who share similar experiences to find their own voices and shapes within their emotions.

My career in the embroidery and textile art world spans international publications, mentoring relationships, artist residencies, curation and exhibitions. Drawing from this wealth of experience, I love to offer guidance and insights to others, helping them navigate their own artistic paths with confidence and authenticity.
