My goal is to help students take their art to the next level through self-exploration and experimentation. Whether you want to create a body of work, figure out your own “style” or just figure out where to go next in your art journey, I have a foundational approach that can help you get there.
I believe using multiple mediums to explore ideas and techniques helps to free up resistance in some areas and reveal new ideas in others. My approach centers on using our sketchbooks as the springboard to explore all aspects of art making from concept to color to composition. I give my students lots of exercises and assignments to push the boundaries and encourage experimentation and apply what we learn to each artist’s own work. I also look to art history for ideas and techniques that we can apply to modern subject matter.
Our class will involve demos, specific assignments, challenges and historical art studies that will help you find the next step forward in your painting practice. We will start each session with a review and group discussion of the previous assignment and then, depending on what we learn, move on to the next assignment with demos and discussion with particular attention paid to each individual group members needs. I own a fine art gallery and teaching studio in Saratoga Springs NY where I teach private classes and workshops. I show my work at a number of galleries and I have been juried into many national shows including Catherine Lorillard society, Salmagundi National Open Show, International Pastel Society, American Women Artists and American Impressionist Society’s online shows as well as numerous regional shows. I am a juried member of the Degas Pastel Society, OPA, PSA and Associate Member with Distinction of AWA.

American painter Eden Compton was born in Texas and raised in Connecticut. She owns and operates a fine art gallery in the arts district of Saratoga Springs in upstate New York. Her gallery is also a teaching studio where she offers private classes and a variety of workshops in pastel, oil and gouache.
Eden has been involved in art her entire life as her grandparents were well known artists in Texas who kept a studio in Mexico where they were known to paint occasionally with Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Though always an avid sketcher, Eden started painting professionally when she left her advertising career in New York City and moved to the Caribbean to work as a charter chef on a private boat over 20 years ago where she met her husband Richard. Together they sailed and ran private sailing charter boats in the Caribbean and Eastern U.S. for many years before moving ashore permanently and settling in upstate NY.
Her formal art education includes BA in Art History from Colgate University and independent courses at the International Center for Photography in NYC. She has studied with many master artists in workshops and classes over the years. Her award winning work has been included in national juried shows including the Catherine Lorillard Society, Salmagundi and the International Pastel Society as well as numerous regional and local shows. Her work can be seen in galleries in upstate New York and Boston. She is a juried member of the Degas Pastel Society, Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America and an Associate with Distinction of the American Women Artists Association.
