MEDIUM: Oil Paint
SPECIALTY: ✔ TechnicalÂ
Visually, the contrast between the linear structure of architectural forms and the organic structure of the human form and the natural environment is an endlessly fascinating combination for me as an artist. I enjoy mixing these contemporary and classical elements in my paintings, and hope to evoke in my viewers a sense of potential and possibility while satisfying the mind’s desire for detail and the eye’s desire for beauty.
Thematically, I am interested in portraying beauty, innovation, and aspiration, but with a particular focus on narrative and an optimistic view of human nature and the future. To that end, I often choose subjects that incorporate those themes but are set in the not-too-distant future or at least point the way there. My goal is not to create science fiction but to paint as if I were selecting what I found important, beautiful, and inspirational about the world, the universe, and humankind’s place in it from a future point of view.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST
I have a fascination with science, engineering, architecture, and, particularly, space and space exploration, which is an obvious source of inspiration, but I try to blend that with an appreciation for organic beauty, including the beauty of the human figure, and of the natural landscape…not only in the traditional sense but also from the wider perspective afforded by views from orbit.
I also occasionally find it interesting to take an existing, narrative and put my own artistic spin on it to emphasize something I find beautiful or important.
These days my work is a fairly even mix of personal projects and commission pieces. Not only is it rewarding to have a painting I’ve created to express something I personally find beautiful, meaningful, or important resonate with a viewer, but I also very much enjoy the process of working with a commission client to find a way to use my artistic vision to express an idea or theme that is beautiful, meaningful, or important to them.
I am committed to craftsmanship in the construction of my paintings and seek to incorporate the best possible painting practices, materials, and techniques, both traditional and modern.
While I understand the value of painting from life, my choice of subjects means that I almost always work from reference photos and imagination.
