What you will learn in this mentorship

• In this online mentoring class, my goal is to guide students through the complete process of creating a finished painting on location—from the initial idea to a resolved, expressive result—while working in a digital format. Using reference, live demos, and shared visual material, we will apply the same principles and techniques used in plein air painting, focusing on composition and design, value and structure, and the ability to simplify complex subjects into clear, compelling statements. The emphasis will be on building a practical, repeatable approach that helps students make confident decisions about what to include, what to leave out, and how to organize a painting for maximum impact.
• In addition to demonstrations, we will hold regular critiques that focus on brushwork, color mixing, and developing a more painterly, expressive approach—even within a digital workflow. Students will be encouraged to paint with intention and emotion, using thoughtful mark-making and strong color relationships to bring their work to life. While the class takes place online, the goal is to equip each participant with the mindset, skills, and process they can take directly into the field, resulting in greater confidence and the ability to complete paintings on site.

• Monthly two-hour session with your mentor where you’ll receive feedback, teaching, and personal support from your mentor
