What you will learn in this mentorship

• This group is about the journey from observation to original artwork—learning to use references as sources of inspiration rather than something to simply copy. Together, we’ll explore how to look more deeply at the world around us and transform what we see, feel, and experience into meaningful, original work.
• The focus is on developing your visual language and strengthening your creative decision-making. We’ll explore how to move beyond the reference, develop ideas and compositions, experiment with materials and techniques, and make intentional choices that reflect your individual voice. Through discussion, feedback, and shared exploration, you’ll build greater confidence in your creative process and develop work that feels increasingly authentic and personal.

Mentorship Focus

1. How to move beyond simply copying references and use them as starting points for original, personal artwork.
2. How to develop ideas and transform observations, photographs, sketches, memories, and inspiration into strong compositions.
3. How to strengthen your artistic eye and make more intentional decisions about what to keep, change, simplify, or leave out.
4. How to experiment with materials, color, layering, brushwork, and texture to discover techniques that support your individual expression.
5. How to develop a personal creative process and visual language that takes you from initial inspiration to a finished artwork with greater confidence.

How This Mentorship Works

• Live online small-group mentorship
• Monthly two-hour session with your mentor where you’ll receive feedback, teaching, and personal support from your mentor
• Mentor assigns homework so you can practice the skills you’re learning and get feedback on your results
• Meet mid-month with your group for informal connection
• Private group chat between sessions
