What you will learn in this mentorship

• What distinguishes your art from everyone else’s? That’s the question every aspiring artist eventually asks. Do you need to develop a style? What techniques do you have to learn?
• The real question you must ask yourself is, Do I know if this painting works? Self assessment is the one skill that really matters. Standing back from your own painting and understanding, honestly, what it needs. Ask yourself: Do I have the toolkit to understand what isn’t working in my painting, and do I know what needs to be fixed?
• Every artist in this group is an individual, and the sessions will follow that core philosophy: you bring your work, and we take the sessions where they need to go. We might talk about composition, paint application, sometimes something more abstract like intent or narrative, sometimes something practical like studio setup, using digital tools, photographing your work, or putting your work online.
• We will cover technical things like drawing accuracy, judging values, or mixing colors. But the underlying theme that we will keep coming back to is, what makes someone stop in front of a painting? What is the artist’s real responsibility to the viewer? What makes a painting good?
• My goal is never to teach you to paint exactly like me. I want to help you paint in a way that’s authentically yours.
