Together, we’ll move beyond simply copying what we see and begin interpreting the world with intention, emotion, and poetic clarity.

Mentorship Focus

1. How Light Shapes the Landscape Students will learn to recognize how different types of light—morning, midday, golden hour, overcast—change the mood, value structure, and color relationships in a scene.
2. Seeing and Simplifying Value Patterns They’ll practice identifying the major value groups that hold a painting together, learning to squint, simplify, and design strong compositions based on light and dark.
3. Color Temperature in Light and Shadow Students will explore warm vs. cool relationships, learning why warm light creates cool shadows (and vice versa) and how to use temperature shifts to create glow.
4. Glazing and Layering for Glow You’ll introduce techniques for building luminosity through transparent layers, helping students create that inner radiance your landscapes are known for.
5. Learn to move past literal copying—using light, shadow, and color to express emotion, memory, and personal voice in their landscapes.
