Patt Scrivener

PROFESSIONAL ARTIST MENTOR

Mentored By: I am a mentor

Patt Scrivener AFCA Patt Scrivener was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan and grew up on a grain farm along with her four siblings. Although there was always lots of work to do, there was time to create too. Patt’s first childhood memory of art was colouring on any paper that was around and although she does not remember she has been told she coloured on walls too! Patt works in many mediums including acrylic, encaustic and cold wax with oil. Her work includes imagery of people, landscape and abstraction. The layering of a variety of media offers an assortment of possibilities within her work. “My work is about the process – I love layering, scraping, sanding, pouring and dripping. I use many unorthodox tools and love going to the thrift shop and hardware store! In 2007 Patt studied life coaching and this was instrumental in her decision to become a full time artist and to help others develop their creativity. Patt devotes her time creating original works and sharing her knowledge on her YouTube channel, and by teaching and mentoring students. She facilitates workshops in her Parksville Studio and online. Patt is a Signature (AFCA) member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Notes: Cold wax medium is a mixture of beeswax, solvent, and alkyd resin. It is added to the oil paint and as the solvent evaporates out of the medium, the soft wax hardens to the density of a beeswax candle. I utilize experimental approaches with the medium, including unorthodox mark making tools, stencils, pastels and textural elements. The possibilities are endless.
