What you will learn in this mentorship

• This group aims to support and empower women artists to develop confidence and mastery in soft pastel practice through bold, expressive, and exploratory approaches. Participants are encouraged to work freely and fearlessly, embracing experimentation and developing a strong, individual voice.
• Central to the group is a commitment to engaging directly with the landscape. Artists are encouraged to work outdoors and build a genuine connection with place, so that their work is authentic, immediate, and deeply informed by lived experience.
• The group aims to integrate artistic practice with an understanding of the natural world, including geology, soil and rock composition, water systems, and cultural context. It also emphasises a strong foundation in materials, and the science of light, colour, and pigment behaviour.
• Through this approach, participants will deepen their understanding of landscape painting – ranging from abstract to realist – including the unique Australian landscape—its unique light, colour, and character—while developing work that is both technically informed and personally meaningful.

How This Mentorship Works

• Live online small-group mentorship
• Monthly two-hour session with your mentor where you’ll receive feedback, teaching, and personal support from your mentor
• Mentor assigns homework so you can practice the skills you’re learning and get feedback on your results
• Meet mid-month with your group for informal connection
• Private group chat between sessions
