What you will learn in this mentorship

• This group dives deeply into the most effective ways to create luminous and light-filled alla prima paintings by using all tools in the artist’s tool box to their full advantage. The pillars of a successful painting, such as composition, value, color, mark making and much more are being taught through demos and hands-on critiques. We are also taking it a step further by replacing copying the reference with intentional artistic choices, which leads to finding a unique style. All techniques taught work well for studio and plein air work.

Mentorship Focus

1. How to create luminous, light-filled alla prima paintings by mastering composition, value, color, and expressive mark-making.
2. How to make intentional artistic choices—moving beyond simply copying references—to develop a distinctive style.
3. Techniques that work both in studio and plein air, including tip-of-the-brush handling, color mixing, and seeing light changes.
4. Strong foundational tools for self-critique, using demos and hands-on critique sessions to pinpoint and overcome your current challenges.
5. New habits and ways of seeing—how to observe light, mood, color, and space in your surroundings—and translate that vision into expressive, impressionistic work.
