WORKSHOP Description
Most artists don’t struggle with having ideas — they struggle with knowing how to stay with one idea long enough to fully explore it.
We’ll explore how to move beyond the first or most obvious version of a piece and uncover new directions through variation, experimentation, and sustained exploration.
Through guided exercises, discussion, and independent studio work, participants will learn how changing materials, scale, process, composition, and approach can transform a single idea in unexpected ways. We’ll talk about revisiting themes, pushing past initial solutions, and following the threads that continue to surface over time.
Rather than focusing on polished final pieces, this workshop is about curiosity, process, and developing a deeper understanding of what drives your work and why certain ideas continue to call you back.
🎥 WORKSHOP RECORDINGS available for 1-YEAR after the workshop ends!

Instructor Bio
Dusti Gomery is an Alberta-based artist working in both acrylic and encaustic, creating paintings and sculptural forms. Her work explores aging, change, and how the memories we carry shift over time, as seen through the lens of lived experience. Built layer by layer, her work holds a sense of history, often reflecting themes of aging, repair, and transformation.
Before focusing fully on her studio practice, Dusti spent many years in the corporate sector as a technical writer. That background continues to inform her approach, bringing structure, precision, and clarity of thought to the way she develops and communicates ideas in her work.
Dusti’s art education follows the lineage of traditional apprenticeship. Rather than pursuing formal schooling, she has spent years studying directly under Master Artists across multiple disciplines beginning in her early teens. This mentor-driven path mirrors the way artists once learned from the Masters of old, and it remains central to her creative evolution, pushing the boundaries of her practice through constant, hands-on work and continuous feedback.
