What you will learn in this mentorship

• We start with sharing about our month, then have a critique of work that each student has shared. (not always homework)
• With input from the students on subject matter, every class I do a demo piece, talking through the process while showing the work. I try to challenge students with different techniques and design ideas that I will demonstrate or discuss.
• Students will bring up subjects they would like to know more about (eg. doing shows, websites etc.) with students often offering their own insights and knowledge. It makes for good discussions.
• My focus for homework is for students to try some part of what we learned in class, while staying true to the type of work they want to do. I very much encourage students to develop their own style and work with materials in ways that appeal to them.

Mentorship Focus

1. To try things, to experiment, to continue to grow your comfort zone.
2. That each painting is just a step in the whole process of becoming the artist you want to be.
3. How to use and layer colors to get a rich surface, full of subtleties and depth.
4. How to loosen up, get your ideas down and not be so precious about each brush stroke.
5. The “why” we do things a certain way. I will always explain the reason we do certain things, certain ways.

How This Mentorship Works

• Live online small-group mentorship
• Monthly two-hour session with your mentor where you’ll receive feedback, teaching, and personal support from your mentor
• Mentor assigns homework so you can practice the skills you’re learning and get feedback on your results
