What you will learn in this mentorship

• This mentorship is for artists who want to move beyond simply making individual paintings and begin thinking more deeply about the kind of artist they want to become. Together, we will strengthen the visual tools that make a painting or drawing work—including composition, balance, visual hierarchy, editing, color, and storytelling—while exploring how those tools can serve your own ideas and artistic intentions. The goal is not to follow someone else’s formula, but to create work that genuinely excites you and to understand why certain choices make an image more compelling.
• Our group will develop through dialogue, critique, experimentation, and the work each artist brings to the table. We will look closely at what is working, what may be holding a painting back, and how an idea might be strengthened without losing what makes it yours. Over time, we will consider larger questions: What kind of artist do you want to be? What keeps drawing you back to the studio? What deserves to be developed further? Artistic experience cannot be rushed, but thoughtful guidance can help you develop greater discernment, make stronger decisions, and avoid unnecessary detours as you build a body of work that is distinctly your own.

Mentorship Focus

1. How to use composition, balance, and visual hierarchy to create stronger, more compelling images.
2. How to edit your work—what to emphasize, what to simplify, and what may be weakening an image.
3. How to use visual storytelling to communicate an idea while leaving room for discovery and interpretation.
4. How to develop greater discernment about your own work and make more confident, intentional artistic decisions.
5. How to identify the ideas and subjects that genuinely excite you and develop them into a body of work that reflects the artist you want to become.

How This Mentorship Works

• Live online small-group mentorship
• Monthly two-hour session with your mentor where you’ll receive feedback, teaching, and personal support from your mentor
• Mentor assigns homework so you can practice the skills you’re learning and get feedback on your results
