WORKSHOP Description
Build the online art business your work deserves, without the overwhelm.
Whether you have been making art for years or you are just now giving yourself permission to take it seriously, you have probably hit the same wall. You know your work is good. You believe in what you are making. But getting it seen, getting it sold, and building something that actually feels like an art business? That part still feels uncertain, overwhelming, or just out of reach.
You are not alone, and you are not behind. What you are missing is not talent or dedication. It is a system. A clear, simple, sustainable way to get your art in front of the people who need it, build income streams that work for you, and show up online without losing your mind or your studio time.
The art world has changed, and that is actually good news for you.
There are more ways than ever to earn from your art and get it in front of the people who need it. Prints and digital downloads that sell while you sleep. Commissions that come to you instead of you chasing them. Licensing deals, gift products, email lists full of people who actually want to hear from you. A social media presence that works for you instead of eating you alive. Opportunities, grants, residencies, and open calls that you find and apply to consistently instead of missing every deadline.
The question is not whether these income streams exist. They do. The question is how to build them in a way that is sustainable, authentic to who you are, and does not require you to become a full-time marketer instead of a full-time artist.
That is exactly what this residency is for.
Over four two-hour sessions across eight weeks, you will build a complete online art business ecosystem rooted in your voice, your values, and your vision. You will start by getting crystal clear on your why, your unique creative mission, and who your ideal audience actually is, because everything else, your website, your social media, your email list, your AI tools, only works if it is built on that foundation. Then you will build outward from there, session by session, into a system where every small action supports the next and compounds over time.
You will learn how to grow and optimize your artist website so it does the work of attracting and converting visitors into buyers. You will get a practical approach to social media that focuses on one to three platforms working together rather than trying to be everywhere at once. You will build or strengthen your email list as the one online asset you actually own and control. You will set up a consistent rhythm for finding and applying to art opportunities every month so that you are always putting your work in front of new audiences and making your own luck.
And woven throughout every session will be AI tools used the way they are actually useful: as a personal secretary, research assistant, and creative advisor that writes in your voice, handles the tasks that drain your energy, and helps you show up consistently without burning out. No hype, no image generation, no gimmicks. Just practical tools that save you time, money, and sanity.
Your instructor Kristen Palana is an American/Portuguese interdisciplinary artist, university professor, and online educator with over 90,000 students in 191 countries. She has consulted for UNICEF, WFP, UNFPA, and other international organizations and teaches digital media at The American University of Rome. She has built and tested everything she will teach you in her own working art practice, navigating the exact same shift from traditional gallery artist to creative entrepreneur with a thriving online ecosystem. She will show you exactly how she does it, in plain language, with warmth, humor, and zero condescension about the tech.
By the end of this residency you will have clarity on your mission, your audience, and your unique value as an artist. You will have a working online presence that reflects who you are and attracts the right people. You will have an AI studio assistant trained on your voice and your goals. You will have a simple, consistent system for social media, email, and opportunity applications that does not take over your life. And you will have the confidence that comes from knowing your art is no longer a best-kept secret.
Small actions. Consistent rhythm. A system that compounds. That is how you stop waiting to be discovered and start being found.

Supply List
No special software, art supplies, or purchases are required. Everything you need is free or has a free tier.
Before the first session, please set up the following:
A free account with Claude (claude.ai) or ChatGPT (chat.openai.com). If you are already using another AI tool that is fine too. We will primarily work with Claude and ChatGPT so having at least one of those set up will help you follow along and get the most out of every session.
A basic document with a few sentences about who you are as an artist, what you make, and who you make it for. Do not worry about getting it perfect. A rough draft is all you need and we will refine it together in session one.
A simple list of your current online presence: your website if you have one, which social media platforms you are on, and any places you currently sell your work. Again, no polish needed. Just honest.
Optional but helpful: a free Google account so you can connect Gmail and Google Calendar to your AI assistant if you would like to create a daily briefing personalized to you.
That is it. Come as you are. We will build the rest together.
