WORKSHOP Description
In this workshop, we will use a variation on what is known as this the Zorn palette, which is named after the Swedish painter Anders Zorn (1860-1920). This simple palette, which consists of titanium white, yellow ochre, cadmium red, ultramarine blue, and ivory black, is a useful tool for painters who are trying to learn to maximize their range of color with a limited palette. We will use a painting by the Dutch old master Adriaen Coorte (1665-1707) as our reference image (get it— an old master mashup!). The Zorn palette is a great tool for copying Old Master paintings in a way that feels approachable and accessible. It’s also a gateway to making more sophisticated paintings.
