How to make color your creative ally.
Color is one of the greatest tools we have as artists, but it can also feel like one of the trickiest to master.
How do you make color work for you, not against you? Learning how to build and use your own color palette meaningfully will transform the way you create.
In this LIVE DEMO, Mentor Kaye Freeman will guide you through the process of developing a personal relationship with color, one that builds on your existing skills. Not only will it push your work forward with intent but also strengthen your color intuition.
Kaye will demonstrate how she builds layers of color in her own drawings and share how she collects color inspiration in her studio, offering a real-time look into her creative process. With Kaye’s guidance, you’ll begin to trust color as a creative ally, not a source of doubt.
You'll learn:
- How to create a personalized, intuitive color palette
- The core principles of warm vs. cool colors and how to use them
- Why the color wheel is more fun and useful than you think
- Practical ways to move past hesitation and embrace bold color choices
As visual creators color is one of the most significant gifts we have, and learning to optimize it allows us to create truly spectacular work. This demo will introduce you to practical tools and visual inspiration to make color a confident part of your creative vocabulary.

Meet Kaye Freeman
Acrylic | Colored Pencil | Drawing | Graphite | Ink | Mixed Media | Oil
Kaye Freeman explores the symbiosis of organic matter in the natural world while also investigating patriarchal impact on gender and habitat.
Her work utilizes painting, drawing, performance and film to describe the micro and macro of interconnections between environment, the self and nature. The intension behind each artwork often dictates the medium used. The relationships between colors, shapes and composition is at the for front of all the work.
Freeman constantly pushes boundaries, norms and even acceptability and possibilities in order to keep the work fresh and relevant for our shared human experience at this moment in history.
A multi-award-winning artist, Freeman’s practice ranges from drawing and painting to performance and making short films. Most recently, she was awarded the Jurors Prize for her monolithic drawing at the Annual Brand Works on Paper, presented and curated by the renowned Los Angeles art critic Shana Nys Dambrot at the Brand Library and Arts Center in Glendale.
