What you will learn in this mentorship
- Advanced Landscape Painting: Process and Special Topics
- This mentor group is designed for the accomplished landscape painter who is ready to move beyond fundamentals, sharpen their vision, and push their work to the next level.
- Mitchell maintains a strong focus on the essential foundational aspects of landscape — shape interpretation, color, and composition — while also going further with more advanced topics such as working in series, working beyond photo reference, honing personal vision and style, and abstraction. Each 3-hour session includes a review of each member’s work, slide presentations, demonstrations, and open discussion on special topics. Group and individual exercises are offered on an as-needed basis, tailored to both the group’s collective interests and each painter’s individual needs. Mitchell’s teaching approach is as playful as it is rigorous, creating a space where risk-taking is encouraged and every question is worth asking.
- This program assumes participants are well established in the core foundations of landscape painting, including drawing, color mixing, and composition.
- NOTE: Monthly sessions for this group are 3 hours duration.
