LIVE DEMO! Capture Atmosphere & Light
Ever wonder how the Old Masters managed to capture such magical atmosphere and luminous light in their paintings?
Here’s your chance to understand not only what those painters achieved, but why modern approaches so often fall short.
Join Mastrius mentor Martin Kinnear for a dynamic live demo and discussion designed to explore the Old Masters technique, so you can learn how to capture atmosphere and luminous light in your artwork.
This demo will reveal how you can apply their time-tested techniques to your own practice, helping you build depth, rich light, and atmosphere.
What you'll learn:
- The optical color principles behind glazing and scumbling
- How mediums can be used to create mood and visual depth
- The science behind light effects in classical techniques
- Why Impressionist color theory often falls short for atmospheric realism
Don’t miss this opportunity to see classical methods in action and ask your questions live. Martin’s insight will give you practical tools to elevate the light and atmosphere in your work.
As always, Mastrius events are LIVE & INTERACTIVE!

I am an award-winning painter, Royal College of Art visiting lecturer, and Médaille d’Argent winner at the Paris Salon. My work is represented in the UK Government Art Collection and major museums, and I have mentored hundreds of painters to develop both their skills and their artistic voice. I specialise in technical oil painting and creative style development, teaching oils across the full tradition—from classical foundations such as grisaille and layered Baroque methods, through the colour and light of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, to the expressive freedoms of modern practice. Alongside my studio work, I have written over a hundred published articles in Artists & Illustrators, Leisure Painter, and The Artist, and been recognised as a Master Artist in International Artist Magazine.
