And because most artists wear many different hats in their careers, Laureen has also worked as an executive director of cultural organizations, an organizer of exhibitions, a curator, a directory of artist residency programs, and almost every kind of freelance visual art person, including writing about art and the business of art, designing websites, teaching art and art business, and much more. Laureen has been chairperson of Canadian Artists Representation Saskatchewan, as well as a board member of CARFAC National and the Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency; she was a founding board member of Canadian Artists Representation Copyright Collective. For 20 years she researched, wrote, and produced the Saskatchewan Visual Arts Handbook; she wrote and produced a Visual Arts enhancement to The Art of Managing Your Career, published by the Cultural Human Resources Council of Canada; and she was lead writer with CARFAC Saskatchewan’s Visual Arts Sector Best Practices Development Project. 

All of which means she comes to the business of art and artists’ career development from many different angles, while (mostly) never losing her sense of humour.

Laureen’s paintings consider the relationship of personal narrative to the actions we take, of how we perceive beauty to what we do with that perception. Though her paintings are representational, they aren’t just about surface appearance. Laureen believes that if she can paint someone or something so it looks the most like itself, she might help viewers see not just the painting’s subject, but themselves in it.
